SeaRoad’s newbuild vessel officially launched

SeaRoad is pleased to share the celebration and launch of newbuild roll on / roll off (RoRo) freight vessel, SEAROAD I. This significant milestone was commemorated with a ceremony held on 7 November 2025 in partnership with German shipbuilding yard, FSG Shipyard GmbH (FSG Shipyard).

Hull number 784 was officially christened and named SEAROADI by the vessel’s Godmother Mrs. Silvana Guarino, wife of Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Patrick Guarino. The ceremony involved a centuries old maritime tradition with Mrs Guarino breaking a bottle of champagne against the hull, bestowing the vessel with a blessing of fair winds and following seas.

SeaRoad’s Executive Chairman, Chas Kelly, said the launch and naming ceremony marked an exciting milestone in the construction of SEAROAD I.

“The launch and naming ceremony is a significant occasion in any newbuild journey, and SEAROAD I is no exception. The vessel is on track to deliver increased efficiencies, flexibility and speed for SeaRoad,” Mr Kelly said.

“SeaRoad is proud to be a Tasmanian business, delivering not only for its customers but for otherlocal businesses and people.”

The new 210-metre-long freight vessel, scheduled for operation in September 2026, will feature the latest technology, including LNG power, as part of SeaRoad’s ongoing commitment to sustainability.

SEAROAD I will have a capacity of 4,227 lane metres and is designed to carry heavy cargoes up to 100 tonnes each, containers via a cassette system, road trailers, and other freight including over dimensional units and motor vehicles.
